scenario

FIFA Hospitality needed a commemorative gift that could capture the emotion of supporter culture while meeting the constraints of a global brand and premium hospitality program.

outcome

The scarf became one of the most sought-after pieces of FIFA Hospitality merchandise, earning an expanded role as a premium gift for select package holders.

The challenge wasn't creating merch, but designing something people would genuinely value despite strict brand and production constraints

Designing for Football Culture

A football scarf exists as a deeply embedded artifact within the sport. It’s wearable, symbolic, collectible, and immediately recognizable within the culture. But this one needed to sit closer to premium fashion and hospitality than mass-market fan gear. The starting point was traditional football scarves alongside knitwear and accessories from luxury fashion houses, looking closely at density, complexity, restraint, and how visual language changes when an object is more premium accessory than souvenir.

Crafted with Intention

While we explored acrylic printed concepts we ultimately moved away from them because they didn't reflect the elevated hospitality experience this object was meant to represent. One detail became central to the design. Because FIFA World Cup 2026™ is the first tournament identity to incorporate the trophy into its logo, highlighting it with metallic gold thread woven directly into the knit accentuates this nod to the prize every player, coach, and country is chasing.

A Gift Worth Keeping

The strongest validation that our scarf was less a promotional giveaway and more a collectible object came from our guests. People weren’t treating the scarf like branded merchandise; they were treating it like something scarce and worth owning. That reaction ultimately shifted its role from temporary event collateral to an official premium hospitality gift.
